How Does Breathwork Work?

Our breathing is connected to our nervous system and emotional centre of the brain. When we experience uncomfortable emotions, the body's stress response causes us to hold our breath, or to take shallow breaths. If we do not feel safe enough to fully experience and express our emotions, we may become "stuck" in a stress response. Over time, we may not notice that we are in a stress response, as it becomes our version of normal.

Conscious, connected breathwork (also known as rebirthing breathwork) supports the body to complete the stress response. This allows the nervous system to move out of a fight / flight / freeze state, and into a calmer and more relaxed state.

Through somatic experiencing (processing and expressing emotions and stuck energy in the body), breathwork therapy can release stress, fear, and trauma on a cellular level, heal the root cause of mental health challenges, and restore a sense of safety within the body.
